Most homes in Rio Grande City lean on their air conditioning for the better part of the year, and many small shops and ranch properties do too. Our HVAC services in Rio Grande City cover that whole picture: fixing what quit, installing what's next, cleaning what's clogged and keeping heating ready for the few cold nights that matter. We serve houses and light-commercial spaces across Starr County and western Hidalgo County from a base in town, and we have been doing it since 2024.
This page is the map. Each section points to a more detailed page for the work you need.
Which residential HVAC problems does Starr County housing create?
Equipment fails here for local reasons. Summer afternoons near or above 100°F keep compressors running for hours, and a long season means wear piles up faster than in milder parts of the state. Fine caliche dust and mesquite and huisache debris coat outdoor coils, so a unit can be mechanically fine and still blow weak air until it is washed.
Housing adds its own wrinkles:
- Homes that grew room by room. A central system sized for the original house rarely keeps up once a bedroom or a covered patio room is added. A ductless head is often the cleaner fix.
- Block (CMU) walls. They hold heat into the evening, which keeps systems running late, and they make new duct runs awkward.
- Manufactured homes. Belly ducts under the floor tear or disconnect, and the air handler usually sits in a tight closet.
- Rare but hard freezes. Winter Storm Uri in February 2021 showed how quickly heat pumps and heat strips that sat unused all year can let a family down.

Air conditioning and heating services, by need
| What you need | Where to start |
|---|---|
| AC quit, cools weakly, leaks or makes noise | air conditioner repair |
| A new or replacement central system | AC installation and replacement |
| Ductless cooling for one room or a whole house | mini-splits: install, repair, cleaning |
| Seasonal tune-ups and unit washing | AC maintenance and tune-ups |
| Heat pumps, heat strips, furnaces | heating repair and installation |
| Leaky, crushed or dirty ducts | ductwork repair and sealing |
| Dust, allergies, sticky humidity | indoor air quality equipment |
| Smart or replacement thermostats | thermostat installation |
| Hot ceilings and a struggling system | attic insulation |
| A breakdown that cannot wait | emergency AC repair |
Repair work covers capacitors, contactors, fan motors, refrigerant leaks, compressors and clogged drain lines. Installation covers central split systems, package units and single or multi-zone mini-splits, including 2-ton and multi-head jobs. Maintenance includes the coil washing that brings back cold air when dust is the real problem.

What happens after you call: an HVAC visit in six steps
- Phone triage. Tell us what the system is doing, its type and age, and who is home. Elderly relatives, babies or a medical need move a no-cool call up.
- A walk-around first. Outdoor unit, pad, disconnect and thermostat get a look before any panel comes off.
- Readings before parts. Voltage, amp draw, capacitor values, the air temperature split at the vents and, when symptoms point there, refrigerant pressures.
- The finding, shown to you. The failed part, reading or photo, with safety items kept apart from upgrades.
- Options and cost before work starts. Repair, replacement or cleaning, your choice.
- Fix, then verify. Cold air, a draining condensate line, panels back on, area swept.
Light-commercial HVAC for shops, offices and cold rooms
Small businesses have different stakes: customers walking out of a hot store, a cooler full of product, staff who cannot work in a closed office at 95°F. Our commercial HVAC work covers rooftop and package units on small buildings, walk-in coolers and CoolBot cold rooms built from an insulated room and a standard air conditioner. Ranches use those rooms for game and produce, and small food sellers use them for stock.
For commercial calls we try to schedule around opening hours when the job allows, and we explain what can be done now versus what can wait for a slow day.

Paperwork worth keeping: warranties, licences and refrigerant rules
A little record keeping saves money later.
Manufacturer warranties
Most equipment makers require registration within a set window after installation to give the full parts coverage. File the install date with the model and serial numbers where you will actually find them again. When a part fails, we can check the unit's warranty status with the manufacturer and handle the warranty repair. Labor is a separate question that the manufacturer's terms answer, not us.

Rules that protect you
- Contractor licensing. Texas licenses A/C and refrigeration contractors through TDLR. You can search any licence on TDLR's website before you hire. A TDLR Class B licence covers cooling systems up to 25 tons; Class A has no size limit, which matters for large rooftop jobs.
- Refrigerant handling. EPA Section 608 rules govern who may buy and handle refrigerant and forbid venting it into the air.
- Efficiency minimums. Since 2023, ratings use SEER2. Texas falls in the DOE Southeast region, where a new split-system central AC under 45,000 Btu/h must reach at least 14.3 SEER2.
- Tax credits. The federal 25C credit covered only equipment put into service by the last day of 2025, so a 2026 install misses it. Ask about utility or manufacturer rebates, and talk to a tax professional.
Beyond heating and cooling: pads, paint and repairs
Some of the most useful work around an AC system is not HVAC at all. A cracked or sunken slab tilts a condenser and strains its lines, so we form and pour concrete AC condenser pads and fix other concrete. Fire ants nest in outdoor units and short out contacts; we clear them out of the electrical compartment and replace a damaged contactor as part of AC repair, and leave yard treatment to a licensed pest control company.

The same crew also handles house painting, handyman repairs and larger home construction and remodeling projects, which helps when an addition needs both walls and cooling.
Booking HVAC service from Roma to La Grulla
Call (213) 423-7827 and tell us what the system is doing, how old it is and where you are. A clear description helps us bring the right parts the first time. Las Lomas is about ten minutes from our base, while Roma is about twenty-five up US-83, and La Grulla is roughly twenty to the southeast. We work across all of Starr County. Plenty of jobs get done the same day the customer calls, when the schedule allows.
Many neighbors search for servicio de aire acondicionado or reparación de minisplit; the same number reaches us either way.
What moves the price on any job
We don't post prices because two calls that sound alike can be very different jobs. What changes the cost:
- The type of system and its age
- Which part failed and whether it is in stock locally or must be ordered
- The refrigerant the system uses; R-22 is no longer produced in the US, so older systems cost more to recharge after a leak repair
- How hard the equipment is to reach: attic, crawlspace, roof or closet
- Whether the work happens during regular hours or after them
- Distance, for properties toward San Isidro, Zapata County or eastern Hidalgo County
- For new systems: size, efficiency, and any duct, pad or electrical changes
Ask for the estimate to name each of these, so two quotes can be compared line by line.
Payment can be cash or a Visa, MasterCard, American Express or Discover card. For bigger projects, ask about financing.

July 2024 is when we began taking Rio Grande City calls, and the crew has stayed small and local, so the person on the phone and the person at your unit talk to each other. What do people ask before hiring an HVAC company in Starr County?
What HVAC services does 956 Multi Service offer in Rio Grande City?
Air conditioning repair and tune-ups, unit washing, new central AC sales with installation, mini-split installation, repair and deep cleaning, heating and heat pump work, ductwork, air quality equipment, thermostats, attic insulation and light-commercial jobs such as CoolBot cold rooms and walk-ins. We also handle manufacturer warranty checks and warranty repairs. Outside HVAC, the same crew pours AC pads and other concrete, paints and takes on handyman and remodeling work.
Do you service all AC brands, including Mr. Cool and other DIY mini-splits?
We work on the common central and ductless brands sold in the Valley, and we have worked on Mr. Cool DIY mini-splits, including units a homeowner installed themselves. Pre-charged DIY line sets can be serviced like any other split once we confirm how they were connected. For less common imported brands, parts can take longer to arrive, so we tell you that before ordering anything.
How fast can a technician reach my home in Starr County?
It depends on the day's schedule and how far you are from our Rio Grande City base. Las Lomas is roughly ten minutes away, Escobares and La Grulla around twenty, and Roma about twenty-five minutes up US-83. Many calls are handled the same day when the schedule allows, and we give you an honest time window on the phone instead of a promise we cannot keep.
Is 956 Multi Service licensed by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR)?
Texas requires anyone doing air conditioning and refrigeration contracting to hold a TDLR licence, and the state keeps a free public search on the TDLR website. Our advice for every contractor you consider, us included, is to ask for the licence number and look it up yourself before work starts. It takes a minute and is the most reliable check there is.
Do you give free estimates on new systems?
Ask when you call. We will tell you up front whether there is any charge for the visit to measure and quote a new system, so nothing comes as a surprise. A proper quote needs someone on site to look at the house, the existing equipment, the electrical panel and the ductwork or wall space, which is why we prefer to see it rather than price it over the phone.
